Pedro Pío was born in Granada (Spain). He learned Documentary Film Direction from the International Film School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) in Cuba. He is interested in non fiction cinema, influenced by filmmakers such as Abbas Kiarostami, Werner Herzoz, the Dardenne brothers and Victor Gaviria. He always opts for the staging of non-actresses and non-actors and rewrites the stories based on the personal experiences of the cast. " The story is modified based on the real life of the people who are going to be in the film. You have to do prior research to achieve a deep connection with these people, you have to see and listen to them very carefully."

He has written and directed several short films and one feature film, including:

“Maya”, nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival (France).

“La niña de la buseta”, which was screened at the Short Film Corner in Cannes (France), received the awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actress at Bogoshorts, the Short Film Festival in Bogotá (Colombia), won Best Film at the Martil Film Festival (Morocco) and was an Official Selection at the Huesca Film Festival (Spain).

“JAURÍA”, co-produced by Evidencia Films (Colombia), Les Films du Worso (France) and Momento Films (Sweden). Premiered in the official selection of Clermont-Ferrand (France), and broadcast on ARTE France.

He has just finished his first feature film, “El Gesto del Agua”, which he wrote, directed, photographed, edited and coloured.

In parallel, he also works with other audiovisual media arts, such as color correction and still photography.
